THE RITUAL FEAST
Join us in observance of the sacred night as we celebrate the opening of the KKProjects New Orlenas Biennial Exhibition.
The Feast, set to candlelight on the Day of the Dead, is a seated dinner for 300 people at one table down the center of an abandoned block between Arts + Music streets in St Roch, New Orleans. Surrounding the table are the illuminated installations of the six KKProjects houses. The evening features the ritualistic presentation of eight courses of divine local ingredients, gives expression to the themes of the exhibition, and is the collaboration of artist Dawn Dedeaux, chef Rocky Barnette, and KKProjects. Drink concoctions are designed by Spirits Handler Alan Walter in hand crafted vessels by artist John Oles. Dawn Dedeaux's long running table, an art installation itself, will be exhibited as still life during the day of The Feast, the opening day of the New Orleans Biennial.
Participants act as living elements of the installation; the evening and set convey reverence, ritual and abandon. The menu selections correspond to the sculpted platters and utensils designed for the night's festivities and every detail gives expression of the larger themes. Throughout the evening, performances erupt in opera, theater and dance. Music and sound work curated by Diego Cortez and performances curated by Koan Jeff Baysa accompany all elements of the night.
In honor of the surrounding swamp and the Louisiana Wetlands, Chef Barnette will be working with the Food & Water Watch to present sustainable gulf coast seafood through the courses of the night's menu.
Special Thanks goes out to the night's executive producer and co- curator of the exhibition, AdrinAdrina.
