Super Conductor
Daphane Park's amorphous tent concentrates life-force energy according to Wilhelm Reich's Orgone Energy. Raw silk, steel and alpaca hair (hand gathered and stomped into felt by Park and team) were layered and interwoven to accumulate the life-force. Superconductor's plush, upholstered interior sits atop a base filled with steel wool. Visitors are invited to lay within the space and reap the benefits of its energizing properties. For the 64 days of communal life during Eiffel Society's creation, Super Conductor served as sleeping quarters for the resident exhibiting artists.
Postscript:
After Eiffel Society's grand opening, the developers who invited Life is Art Collective to create the exhibition (and whom we love very much) decided it was too difficult of a piece for their audience, and in one evening, dismantled Super Conductor. We were deeply saddened to see the grounding, spiritually digestive monolith removed from the exhibition. Parks' endless hours were too easily unraveled. Still, we recognize that the process of encountering the potency of the piece is by nature overwhelming, and that perhaps one could feel the need to destroy Super Conductor before being dissolved by its transformative powers.
