Animal / Vegetable, Co-habitation vs. Colonization
In the Bakery, a fabric sculpture hangs from the skylight and spills out onto the floor. Salvaged fabrics are collaged onto a background of fabric hand-died with coffee, tea, berries, and wine, then embroidered. Each face of the sculpture depicts organic systems based on veins and roots- one side referencing animal structure, the other vegetable, unified through common dendritic form.
Co-habitation vs. Colonization
In the front room of the Dirt House, five large cocoons hang from the ceiling by intricately embroidered webs. The cocoons are composed of stuffed burlap coffee bags. The surrounding walls are papered with images depicting housing.
In the last week of the exhibition, the left wall of the house fell out from the ceiling to reveal daylight, and the slate roof collapsed. The cocoons remain in position.
